Hi All,
I read a most enjoyable article by John Kraljevich in Coin World
"Half Reales Paid the Toll". We tend to forget that our State Coinages
are not really colonial - they're Confederation. And the Spanish
coinage was the most important circulating medium in our colonial
economy. It's importance stretches well into the 1800's and after the
Civil War in our Western States. I won't give away John's article, but
you can read it in the October 2013 issue of the Numismatist.
