Todd used to clean-up all the old coppers at our local coin club! (when the=
    y surfaced)
    No one else bid.
Then he got me interested in colonials!
After that I started buying old british coins on ebay and I found myself bi=
dding on the same stuff as some guy named haypny and then dp1787!
I've since met them both and now consider them my friends.
    :O)
    jwl
PS Today Todd and I are the only ones who bring/sell anything interesting =
    at the coin club!
The rest are mercury dimes and proof sets!
PSS However, I still pick up a few Silver Dollars now and then!

There were a lot of weak VF/EF British halfpennys in 50 cent junkboxes 2=
    0-25 years ago.
My only regret was not buying more. Also found some decent colonials too.
I dont think those dealers knew what colonials were.

If he bought the piece a fair amount of time ago, then a junkbox may have=
been accurate -- there were still things to be found in them! Not 50 cent=
junkboxes, but dealers used to have $1, $5 and $10 ones and a weak VF/EF B=
ritish halfpenny wouldn't have been a whole lot more than that 20-25 years =
ago. He may have owned it a long time before it was attributed as a Machin=
    s, of course.

The story I refuse to believe is the 1870-S Half Dime that was supposedly=
    found in a junkbox. A Choice AU (now it's MS64 with gradeflation I think)=
half dime would have NEVER been in a junk box....

I am quite sure, Ed told me he had purchased that 24-87C from someone=
as counterfeit before it was written up by August. I don't know whether E=
d thought it was Machin's related when he bought it. I suspect he did not =
and only realized it was, after Dick published on it.

    Hi All.

Perhaps I miss heard him, or perhaps it is one of the stories that =
morphs over time. But I do agree with Dave about its quality (that part I h=
ave seen) and I do remember him telling me the story about him having it fo=

s the part I missed was that Mike knew because he had previously discovered=
