Yes, I knew the story after the fact, not while the auction was going on. I sat=20 in the room, and had 2 Canadian dealers behind me that laughed their butts off=20 at how stupid the prices were, and how easily they could supply the same or= =20 better grade pieces much cheaper. Kind of like Rob Retz and I were laughing with=20 regard to Fugios at Ford. David

David, the Taylor Blacksmiths were an odd occurrence. They didn't actually "sell" at the auction, as I think you know. The collection was purchased from Warren Baker intact by Don Partrick, with the understanding that it would be catalogued for the record. Don simply sat in the front, raised his hand and bought back 95% of the lots -- the few he didn't buy were duplicates or things he already owned a better example of. So since he was the seller AND the buyer (and I'm sure had a deal cut with Bowers and Merena), it didn't matter whether he paid $40 or $40000 for something, it was just shifting money from one pocket to another!
However, it is safe to say that if that exact collection appeared for sale today, the prices would be significantly higher, pretty much across the board, perhaps with the exception of Wood 33 and 42. Even more common things like Wood 11 and 18 have been bringing a few hundred a pop on ebay recently, and these would have been $50 or so then!
