Rod,
Nice pickup!
My answer to both of your two questions is no.
I have not seen this open U effect on the N/NV 1 obverse.
The N1 - V1-A reverse almost always shows signs of clashing with some examp= les being very clear.
The V1-A reverse is also used with the N4 and N15 obverses. And apparently = "N17" also uses this reverse.
What also interest me with this obverse is that there appears to be signs o= f possible clashing where the rosette is.
At 92 grains this is the lightest non-damaged N1 that I am aware of.
BTW, your beautiful N1 is still right up there with the Nelson plate coin a= nd the 1995 CVM-Smith coin which can be viewed on C4's homepage.
I have the variety at R6-R6+.
Congratulations and I hope to see you at EAC in Charlotte. I recently picked up this N-1. The die appears to be filled giving the "O"= the appearence of being broken.
I've gone back & checked photos from major auctions (C4, Heritage, Stacks a= rchive search is currently unavailable, etc)
Has anyone seen this on any other example?
Also, this specimen is on a thin planchet weighing 92 grains. Other VF exa= mples are in the 102 -115 grain range. Nelson & Breen list the lower weig= ht limit at 102 grains.
Has anyone seen another one this light?
Rod W.
