I just had my first experience freeing a coin from an ICG brand slab.
Jeez !!!! That was absolutely the toughest slab I've ever had to break open. The standard tap around the edges process, which worked wonderfully on an NCG slab I opened first, did absolutely nothing. I had to physically break off a corner of the ICG slab and using a screwdriver (shudder) work around the edges and crack off the face of the slab. Shards of plastic flew everywhere...one of which I can't even find.
I eventually got to a point where I was able to insert a business card to protect the surfaces of the coin (a Byzantine gold solidus) a bit....just in case....and continue working my way around the edge with the screwdriver.
Is this normal for that brand slab? Anyone else ever had to fight to get a coin out of it's plastic tomb?
Craig
