NUMISMATIST JIM MAJOROS NAMED ASBURY PARK HOMETOWN HERO
Speaking of the health of the hobby, today's issue of the Asbury
Park Press profiles New Jersey numismatist Jim Majoros and his
efforts with young numismatists:"To Jim Majoros, coin collecting isn't just about the money. For
more than a decade, the Toms River resident has made it his mission
to bolster the ranks of the Ocean County Coin Club by introducing
hundreds of youngsters to the hobby."I always say if we can get one of 100 kids to continue in the hobby,
that's a good percentage," he said. "Hopefully the seed is planted,
and they might come back to us when they get older.""After spending 40 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard,
Majoros retired in 1988. The last five years before his retirement
he served as state executive officer for the Air National Guard.""Majoros said he became interested in coin collecting after his
uncle brought home coins he received while working at Monmouth
Park Racetrack in Oceanport.""It's a rewarding hobby," Majoros said. "A great bunch of people
are involved, and there is camaraderie among them. Coin collecting
is a great family activity."To read the complete article, see: Full Story
