Anchors Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • Hesychius states that the Cypriotes called their Triobols " anchors." As no ancient money of Cyprus bears the type of an anchor, Six has believed that we should conclude that the coins called Anchors were something very different from ordinary money ; Babelon, on the other hand, thinks there were very ancient pieces of a primitive epoch, and of small size, which were anchor-shaped, having flukes or recurving arms; for it is impos- sible that the anchor of any vessel, how- ever small, should have had only the value of a triobol, as Hesychius tells us.
