Arrhes Public Deposited
A French expression meaning money given for the binding of a bargain and corresponding to Earnest (q.v.).
In the American Journal of Numismat- ics (xli. 31), there is an extensive descrip- tion of the Arrhae, or " tokens of spous- age, " called by the French Deniers pour epouser .
