August d'Or Público Deposited
A gold coin of Saxony, struck originally by the electors and later by the king. It was a variety of the Pis- tole or five-Thaler gold piece. The Ephraim d'Or, a type issued by Frederick the Great, at Leipzig, from 1756 to 1758 was greatly inferior and contained only about one-third the quantity of gold of the regular Pistoles. See Ephraimiten.
