Definizione
  • A nickname given to the small silver and billon coins of the Swiss Cantons of Berne and St. Gallen, which have a figure of a bear. This privilege was granted them by Frederick III in 1475. See Blanchet, Nouveau manuel de numismatique . 1890. (ii. 263).
