Bagattino Pubblico Deposited
from bagata, a trifle. A small copper and billon coin of Venice, which appeared originall}- about the reign of the Doge Francesco Foscari (1423-1457), and was in use for about two centuries.
It was also extensively employed at Friuli, Sebenico, Spalato, Zara, Rovigo and other Venetian colonies. At Verona it ap- pears with a date as early as 1516.
The Bagattino was the Venetian unit in copper, and it was usually computed at one half of the Soldo.
