Bell Dollar Publique Deposited
A series of seven Tha- ler, all dated 1643, and struck by Duke August the Younger of Brunswick Lune- burg to commemorate the evacuation of the fortress and city of Wolfenbuttel.
These coins have their divisions of halves and quarters, and with one exception they all bear the picture of a large bell. The first three varieties have the bell without a clapper; the fourth shows only a clap- per; the fifth and sixth have the complete bell with the clapper, and the last variety has a view of the city, above which are three hands ringing the bell.
