Black Dogs Public Deposited
A cant name in Queen Anne's time for bad shillings or other base silver coin. Ashton, in The Reign of Queen Anne (ii. 225) mentions " The Art of making Black Dogs, which ai*e Shillings or other pieces of Money, made only of Pewter double Wash'd. "
