Black Farthing Publique Deposited
A name given to the Scotch Farthing issued in the reign of James III (1460-1488). There appear to be two varieties. One has on Obv. I. REX SCOTORVM, with Rev. VILLA EDINBVRG and a saltire cross in a circle. The other variety has the crowned initials I. R. on the ob- verse, and a crowned saltire cross on the reverse.
