  • A variety of half groat issued in the reign of Charles I, which received its name from the barbarous workmanship. Hawkins states that the Blacksmith Half Crowns of the same pe- riod, also very rude in design, " are now generally considered to be Irish." See British Numismatic Journal (xi. 317).
