Brod Publique Deposited
The name given to a scries of tokens extensively issued in Nu- remberg, Paderborn, and other German towns during the sixteenth century and later, which on presentation could be re- deemed for a loaf of bread. They are of various shapes and metals, and some of them bear the inscription PROT or BROD. A Brodmarke was struck by the Kornverein of Elberfeld in 1817.
