A coin of Palermo issued in 1686 and prohibited and retired from cir- culation in 1698. Della Rovere, Memorie Storiche . . . sopra le Monete basse , 1814 (129), gives an account of this debased currency and asserts that it was composed of a mixture of copper and chalk or plas- ter.
