Definition

• A copper coin of Hindustan, and of about the same value as the Paisa, i.e., the fortieth part of the Rupee. Of the Moghul emperors, the Dams of Akbar (1556-1605) were minted at Lahore, Delhi, Malpur, etc. The Bahmanis of Kolbarga also employed this currency.

  The Phoka Dam is a Nepalese copper coin belonging to the reign of Surendra Vikrama (1847). See Thomas, Essays on Indian Antiquities. 1858 (p. 439 et seq.), and Sihansah and Suka (infra).
