Engenhoso Publique Deposited
A gold coin of Portugal of the value of five hundred Reis, first issued by Sebastian in 1562. It differed from the older Cruzado in having the date and the words IN HOC SIGNO VINCES in the four angles of the cross. The letters G.A., the initials of the engraver Guimarens, are at the side of the shield. The name of the coin means artisitc or novel.
