Definizione
  • The popular name for the billon pieces of eight and six Heller which appeared from the latter part of the sixteenth to the middle of the seventeenth centuries at Cologne, Trier, Juliers, Cleve, etc. The name is said to be derived from the short, stout figure of some saint or ecclesiastic on the obverse.

    Under the Abbesses of Essen (1646-1688) their value was fixed at one one hundred and twentieth Thaler.
