Definición

• A debased coinage issued by James II in Ireland, from June, 1689, to June, 1690. The series consisted of crowns, half-crowns, shillings, and six-pences. The last two denominations are dated with the month as well as the year.

  These coins derive their name from the circumstance that they were principally struck from metal, the product of old canon. The reverses all bear two sceptres in saltire, through a crown, between the letters I and R.
