Halbling Pubblico Deposited
This word means a half, and as the Pfennig was the German equivalent for the Denarius, so the Halbling was originally used to designate the half of this coin, i.e., the Obolus. It occurs among the Bracteates and was the predecessor in Southern Germany and Austria of the Heller, and in more northern Germany of the Scherf.
