Hammered Coins Public Deposited

Definition
  • Date from a very early period and an interesting account of their manufacture is to be found in the Kosmographie of Sebastian Munster, which was printed early in the sixteenth century. The hammered coinage was superseded by the use of the mill and screw. The English hammered silver money was called in during the reign of William III, and the hammered gold coins were declared to be no longer current in 1732-1733. See Milled Money.
