Jesus Thaler Pubblico Deposited
A silver coin of Saxony and Hessen, struck from 1536 to 1546 during the existence of the League. These coins have on one side the portrait of the elector Johann Frederick of Saxony, and on the reverse that of the Landgrave Philip of Hessen.
When the city of Brunswick joined the League, Thaler were struck dated 1538, 1545, and 1546. These have on the obverse the emblematic lion of Brunswick and on the reverse a figure of Christ rising from the grave and Death at his feet. From this design the names Triumph Thaler, Jesus Thaler, and Auferstehungs Thaler have also been given to this coin.
