• A term used in commerce to des ignate any negotiable paper issued to raise money or to obtain credit. Maria Edge- worth, in her novel. Love and Law, 1817 (i. 1), has the phrase, " Here's bills . . . but even the Kites, which I can fly as well as any man, won't raise the wind for me."
