Leeuw Público Deposited
Lion. A gold coin of Brabant, Flanders, and the United Provinces. It was struck by Anthony of Brabant pursuant to an ordinance of 1408. The Gouden Leeuw, as it is sometimes called, was also issued by Philip the Good (1430- 1467) in Flanders and later at Mechlin.
The coin receives its name from the lion on the obverse, who is in an upright position, and is sometimes depicted holding a flag or banner in his claws. See Lion d'Or.
