  • The French, Spanish, and Italian equivalent for the Mark as a weight and a money of account. The Castellano (q.v.) was based on the fiftieth part of this weight. In 1093, Philip I of France donated nine Marcs of silver for the restoration of a church which had been destroyed by fire.
