Marigold Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • An obsolete slang name for a Guinea, and probably given to the coin on account of its yellow color, which is a distinctive feature of the flower. Abraham Cowley, in his play, The Cutter of Coleman Street, 1663 (ii. 3), says "I'll... put five hundred Marygolds in a Purse."
