Moneta Duplex Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • The abbreviated name for the French piece of two Deniers. In the Anglo-Gallic series the same term was applied to the double Gros, and in the Irish series under Edward IV to the double Groat, which was current for eight pence. See Ruding, Annals of the Coinage of Britain. 1840 (i. 284).

The earliest varieties of this coin bear the inscription MONETA DVPLEX and they are found in Brabant under Jean III (1312-1355).
