Moneta Papalis Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • The name given to coins issued in the thirteenth century, which were made for the exclusive use of the subjects of the Popes. They were principally struck at Viterbo and Montefiascone.

The term should not be confused with the Moneta Papalis, which is used to designate coins struck at Rome and Avignon at a later period. See Rivista Italiana (xxii. 379, xxiii. 37).
