  • Names given to gold and silver coins issued in Naples and Sicily by Charles I of Anjou (1266-1285), and by his successor, Charles II (1285-1309).

    They bear on the obverse a representation of the Salutation of the Virgin and are the prototypes of the Anglo-Gallic Salute (q.v.).
