Definición

• The derivation is the same as Sapeque (q.v.), and it meant originally the same thing, i.e., a string of cash. It comes from the Malay sa, i.e., one, and tali, a string.

  Stevens, in his Guide to the East India Trade, 1775 (p. 124), says: " In Batavia 3 Cash are one Satallie; 6 Cash are 1 Sooka; 9 Cash are one Sooka Satallie. "

  The name Setale is still retained in Java and the Malay Peninsula to designate the current twenty-five cent silver piece of the Netherlands.
