Schwaren 上市 Deposited
The name given to former base silver and copper coins of Oldenburg and Bremen, equal to one fifth of the Grote. In Oldenburg they appeared in the latter part of the fourteenth century and usually had a figure of St. Lambert. Those for Bremen were originally issued about the same time and were struck as late as 1866. The name is probably from schwer, i.e., heavy, and denoted a heavy or thick Pfennig. See Flinderke.
According to Jungk (p. 338), the Schwaren of 1676 were the earliest bearing a date.
