Shovel Board Publique Deposited
A nickname given to the broad Shilling of Edward VI, which was used as a counter in the game of shovel-board or shuffle-board. See Shakespeare, Merry Wives of Windsor (i. 1).
John Taylor, the Water Poet, in his Works, 1630 (i. 68), states that "Edward Shillings for the most part are used at shouue-boord. "
