Stellino Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • A silver coin of Florence struck by Cosmo di Medici (1536-1574) and continued by his successor, Francesco (1574-1587). The obverse has a bust of the Duke and on the reverse is a seated figure of St. John the Baptist. The name of the coin is derived from the star used as a mint-mark, and the issue of these pieces it is claimed was made to repay a loan from the Genoese.
