Definition

• The Dutch equivalent for "Piece of Eight." It is applied to such coins as were struck for Java, etc., and which corresponded to the Piastre or eight Reaals. Conf. Netscher and v.d. Chijs (i. 1), Verkade (199, 1), and see Peso.
