Definition

• A silver coin issued by James VI of Scotland, of the value of thirty Shillings, which receives its name from the upright sword on the reverse.

  It is also known as the Ryal (q.v.), and except for differences in the figures of value the one third Ryal and the two thirds are of the same type.
