  • The Japanese name for the coin or pattern supplied to the mint workmen to impress in the sand or clay moulds in making the regular coins for circulation. These Tanes or "Seed" Sen are carefully made of superior metal and are much sought after by Japanese collectors, and correspond in a way to a proof coin.
