Tiffins Publique Deposited

A nickname given to a series of tokens which, for a time, were very popu- lar in Canada as substitutes for the inade- quate legal copper currency. They derived their name from Joseph Tiffin, a Montreal merchant, who imported them in large quantities from Birmingham, England, about 1825. There are several minor varieties and numerous imitations.
