Definizione
  • A general name for the Deniers and Pfennige of Austrian origin, which constituted the great circu- lating medium of Southeastern Europe from the twelfth to the middle of the fifteenth century. They are largely ham- mered coins, of crude workmanship, and of inferior purity. The Kreuzer of Tyrol with its division of four Pfennige, eventu- ally succeeded these pieces and became the unit of exchange.
