A French gold coin, introduced by Louis IX (1226-1270), and continued almost uninterruptedly to the end of the reign of Philip VI of Valois (1328-1350). It receives its name from the large crown on one side ; the reverse has an ornamental cross with fleurs des lis in the angles, and the inscription: XPC :VINCIT :XPC :REGNAT :XPC :IMPERAT.
