Duffer Pubblico Deposited
An English slang term for a counterfeit coin or non-negotiable money. W.S. Jevons, in his work on Money, the Mechanism of Exchange, 1875 (xxi. 289), has the following: "The cheques, bills, [etc.] are regarded by thieves as 'duffer,' with which they dare not meddle."
