  • This term ordinarily implies a Japanese weight ecpial to one thousand momme, or about eight and a quarter pounds. Munro (p. 58) states that in A.D. 810 a quantity of coin (probably Sen), amounting to 1040 Kwan were cast from the copper remaining in the mint, and he adds that the expression Kwan probably refers to one thousand pieces, which would indicate that it was a money of account.
