Phoenix Pubblico Deposited
A silver coin of the Greek Republic under Capo d'Istria, adopted in 1821 and superseded by the Drachma in 1833. It is divided into one hundred Lepta, and its original value was one eighth of the Spanish silver Dollar.
It obtains its name from the figure of the fabled bird Phoenix, which is promi- nent on one side of the coin.
