Pictavina Öffentlichkeit Deposited
The name given to the Denier of Poictiers in Aquitaine to distinguish it from the Denier Parisis. The former was valued at one fourth of the latter.
Rich silver mines were discovered in this locality in the tenth century, and a mint was established under William IV, Count of Poictiers, and Duke of Aquitaine (963- 990). The old name of the town was Pic- tavi, and frequent references to Pictavinas, evidently the same coin, can be found.
