The popular name for the silver coin of twenty Grani issued by Charles II (1665-1700) for Naples and Sicily. The word is a corruption of pecor- ella, i.e., a young sheep, and the allusion is to the Order of the Golden Fleece, which is upon the coin. The name was retained at a later period for all coins of this type.
