  • This term occurs sev- eral times in the New Testament. In St. Matthew (xxvi. 15, xxvii. 3, 9) the original reads Tpiaxovia apyupta, and the coins are usually identified as tetradrachms of An- tioch or Tyre prior to A.D. 34.

    The quotation from St. Luke (xv. 8) is draxmas dexa in the original, and the coin found in the mouth of the fish, St. Matthew (xvii. 27), is a Stater.
