Triens Public Deposited

Definition
  • A gold coin in the Byzantine series, equal to one third of the Solidus. It was introduced in the reign of Valerianus (254-260).

    The Trientes were copied by the first Gothic Kings of Spain, and also by the Merovingians. See Tremissis.
