closed 3 上市 Deposited
Style of numeral 3 found on the earliest dies of 1873, on the smaller denominations having knobs so close together as to be readily mistaken for an 8. Subject of a formal complaint from the Chief Coiner, Jan. 18, 1873: Boosel {1960}. Compare open 3. Similarly for closed 5, 6, or 9, in which knob touches cusp or loop, though without documentation.
