One which received one of its several blows from hub or device punch in accidentally imperfect alignment; Wexler {1984}, following Alan Herbert, distinguishes seven types, which comprise three classes:
A. Displaced extra blows from same or indistinguishable hubs. (Herbert-Wexler Types I, IV, V, respectively " Rotated," " Offset," and " Pivoted." ) The most famous example: 1955 cent, 2214.
B. Displaced extra blows from same or indistinguishable hubs which have worn, chipped, or otherwise deteriorated between blows. (Herbert-Wexler Types II, VI, respectively " Distorted " and " Distended." ) Often hard to tell from class A.
C. Displaced extra blows from two distinguishable hubs: " dual hub vars." (Herbert-Wexler Types III, VII, respectively " Design " and " Modified." ) Famous examples include the cent obvs. 2229, 2232, 2257, 5251, all post-1916 overdates; and the 1909/8 double eagle 7373.
